Sumbawa Island with its volcano, Mt
Tambora, offers adventurous trekking, wonderful natural forests,
archeological sites, fantastic beaches, arts and crafts and
interesting Dutch colonial heritage. Unfortunately Sumbawa is
ignored by most tourists who usually proceed straight to Eastern
Indonesia.
If you chose to tour the entire island of Sumbawa we recommend a
visit to the Komodo Islands, one of Indonesia famous national
parks featuring the Komodo Dragon, a large monitor.

trekking itinerary:
Day 01.
Pick up from your
hotel at 06.00 AM, than we go direct to Labuhan Lombok to
cache ferry to Sumbawa island. Its take around 2 hours to
the harbour of Labuhan Lombok. At 08.30 AM arrive at the
harbour for next destination ( Sumbawa island ). At 10.30 we
arrive at Pototano harbour in Sumbawa island, continue to
Sumbawa Besar, approximately 3 hours to Sumbawa Besar and
lunch at Sumbawa Besar. At 14.00 PM continue our trip to
Siladarma village ( Entrance gate go to Tambora mountain ).
Overnight at Siladarma village.
Day 02.
After breakfast at
07.00 AM, starting our trip by motor bike transport to pos
I, arrive at Pos I around 08.00 AM. At 08.30, begin our walk
to Pos III for lunch and take a rest. At 13.00 PM walk up to
Pos V around 2 hours walk and overnight at Pos V.
Day 03.
At 04.00 AM we
walk to the summit to see the spectacular the biggest
caldera 7 km width after the last erupted in 1815, takes
around 2 hours go to the top of mount Tambora. After enjoy
view of mount Tambora at 08.00 AM back to our camping place,
prepare our trip back to Siladarma village around 6 hours
walk. Overnight at Siladarma village.
Day 04.
After breakfast at
08.00 AM, back to Sumbawa Besar ( 6 hours drive ), lunch at
Sumbawa Besar local restaurant and continue our trip back to
Pototano harbour to catch ferry to Labuhan Lombok ( 10.00 PM
at Mataram ) and the trips is end.
